PLANNING ADVICE
Disruption in Thailand: what to do and who to contact
Cancelled ferry, late arrival, lost passport or assistance needs: prepare contacts and alternatives before departure.
First, keep the right details
Save tickets, addresses, booking references and operator, accommodation and insurer contacts offline. Keep a separate copy of essential contacts. Identify a reasonable alternative for important transfers: you do not need to prebook it, but knowing who to contact avoids starting from scratch.
If a boat is cancelled or a connection is missed
Contact the seller or operator through your booking channels for actual rebooking or refund options. Notify accommodation and affected suppliers. Keep messages and receipts and ask the insurer which expenses need approval. Do not assume automatic refunds or protection for separately purchased connections.
If you arrive very late
Notify the property and confirm check-in at the new time. Recheck transfers and the last service: the original train or boat may no longer be usable. Make arrival-day visits optional rather than trying to recover them all after a travel day.
If your passport is lost
Italian citizens should follow the Italian Embassy in Bangkok’s current instructions on lost or stolen passports and emergency travel documents. Check police-report requirements, documents, hours and timing before attending; do not assume immediate issue or acceptance of any route. Other nationalities should contact their own diplomatic representation.
Urgent help: numbers to save
Official sources list 1669 for ambulance, 191 for police and 1155 for Tourist Police. Have the place name, address or location and contact details ready. For insured events, also contact policy assistance as instructed. This page does not replace an emergency service.
