Koh Tao: where to stay, what to see and how long to spend
Koh Tao for snorkelling, diving or simply the sea: where to stay and how to leave enough time for ferries.
Plan from Koh Tao ↗
A sea-focused choice
Koh Tao is known for diving and also suits bay-and-snorkelling stays. For a dive course, arrange dates with your chosen centre before other visits. You do not need to dive to enjoy the island, but bay access and services differ.
Port, Sairee or a secluded bay?
Compare Mae Haad for port access and Sairee for nearby services. For a secluded bay, ask how to reach accommodation and restaurants without assuming easy walks. Check any property transfers before booking a scenic room.
Days and activities
Allow four full days as an editorial outline when the sea is central to the trip. Choose bays by conditions and access rather than photos alone. A Koh Nang Yuan outing requires boat and access checks. Follow your qualified dive centre’s guidance on requirements and time before an onward flight.
Avoid tight ferry-to-flight connections
Plan arrival by sea and compare operators and connections to the departure pier. Samui can be useful when arriving by air, but compare mainland options for your route too. Weather and actual timetables matter more than map distance; leave a return buffer.
