PLANNING ADVICE
When to visit Thailand: seasons, rain and August
The best season depends on the region. Compare the north, Andaman coast and Gulf, including an August trip.

What is the best time to visit?
For a first trip combining Bangkok, the north and the Andaman coast, November–February is often a useful starting point: upper Thailand is generally drier and cooler. This does not mean every beach has its best weather then. The southern Gulf follows a different pattern. Choose your experiences first, then compare the month with the destinations rather than applying one rule nationwide.
When does it rain, and where?
Across much of the north and centre, the rainy season broadly falls between May and October. The Andaman coast is exposed to the southwest monsoon; on the Gulf side rain can increase later in the year, often peaking climatologically in November. These are patterns, not forecasts for your dates. Rain does not automatically mean staying indoors all day, but rough seas and local warnings can change a boat trip.
Where should you go in August?
For a beach-focused August trip, first compare Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao in the Gulf, generally a more favourable seasonal option than the Andaman coast. Rain is still possible. Phuket and Krabi remain options if you accept more flexibility with sea activities. In Bangkok and the north, mix outdoor visits with indoor alternatives instead of relying on one weather-dependent excursion each day.
Heat, air quality and transition months
March and April can be very hot: plan walks in cooler hours and take breaks. In the north also check current air quality and advisories, particularly with respiratory conditions; a calendar alone is insufficient. During seasonal transitions, leave room to change a stop. Forecasts close to departure and Thai meteorological warnings are more useful than a sunshine promise months ahead.
How to turn your month into a route
With flexible dates, start from your preferred regions. With fixed holidays, compare regions for your month instead. Select interests and travel period in the platform, then review the route on the map. Check cancellations, conditions and alternatives before booking boats or outdoor activities. A good itinerary should still work when a day changes.
Choose your base
Compare areas and the time to spend there. Once you have chosen your bases, pick what to see in the planner.
